Every April, we celebrate Limb Loss Awareness Month—a time to honor the strength, resilience, and determination of individuals living with limb loss. It’s a moment to spotlight their stories, advocate for inclusion, and raise awareness about the challenges and triumphs faced by millions of people across the country.
Where It All Began
Limb Loss Awareness Month was created by the Amputee Coalition, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people affected by limb loss and limb difference. The goal? To raise awareness, educate the public, and celebrate the courage and accomplishments of the limb loss community. It's a month to remind the world that limb loss is not the end of the road—it's the start of a new, powerful chapter.
Why This Month Matters
More than two million Americans are living with limb loss, and hundreds more lose a limb each day due to trauma, cancer, or complications like diabetes. While prosthetic technology has advanced significantly, emotional and social challenges can still be overwhelming. Limb Loss Awareness Month helps shine a light on the importance of access to care, emotional support, and a strong, connected community.
What We're Doing at Ortheco Prosthetics
At Ortheco, our mission has always been clear: amputee success is our number one goal. This April, we’re going beyond the clinic by taking action to build stronger connections within the community.
We’re proud to announce the launch of two new limb loss support groups:
• • One based in St. Louis, Missouri
• • Another in Springfield, Illinois
These groups are safe spaces where individuals and their families can connect, share experiences, ask questions, and find strength in community. Whether you’re newly navigating life after limb loss or have been on this journey for years, you’ll find support, understanding, and encouragement.
How You Can Join In
We invite everyone to take part in Limb Loss Awareness Month. Whether you attend a support group, share your story, or simply learn more about limb loss, every bit of awareness helps break down barriers.
If you or someone you love is living with limb loss, now is the perfect time to connect. Stop by one of our clinics in St. Louis, Springfield, Chicago (Glendale Heights), or Cape Girardeau or visit orthecousa.com to learn more.
Let’s celebrate the strength of those living with limb loss—not just this month, but every day.
